OUTDOOR BURNING IS OUT

State law prohibits outdoor fires in the spring and fall

• Smoke from outdoor burning of yard debris is a health threat to you and your neighbors.
• Smoke from burning branches, grass and twigs contains toxic compounds known to cause cancer.
• Infants, small children, people over 50 and people with ailments such as asthma and emphysema are especially sensitive to smoke.
• Thousands of calls are placed annually to local fire departments by people who are being "smoked out" of their homes by their neighbors.
• Smoke from outdoor fires contributes significantly to air pollution.
